Esentepe
The dramatic landscapes of Esentepe, and the unique nature reserve of the nearby Alagadi Turtle Beach, are among the many hidden wonders of North Cyprus.
Esentepe is a small coastal village with stunning, government-protected seashore and mountain scenery. Literally translated Esentepe means windy hill, but the town is gently cooled by the Mediterranean breezes. With Esentepe as your base you can swim in the sea, laze on the beach, enjoy the village restaurants, or wander up the meandering paths into the forests behind the village.
Alagadi is one of the cleanest and biggest seashores in Northern Cyprus. During the summer season, endangered Loggerhead and Green Turtles lay their eggs on this undeveloped crescent of sand and shingle. The Society for Protection of Turtles (SPOT) operates an information centre and arranges turtle-watching walks during the nesting season from May to October, while doing its best to protect eggs and hatchlings.
